Toronto School of Management is proud to host our first annual TSoM Data Analytics Symposium – an intercollegiate event where students will present their Data Science research project. Students will hear from a distinguished panel of industry and academic professionals, who will discuss and share their insights on the current state of Data Science in the industry.
Panelists will also judge the student presentations and select the winners, who will be awarded during the event.

Dr. Kenneth Jonathan A Rodgers
Keynote Speaker
John Rodgers is an entrepreneurial Bahamian eye surgeon with a reputation for economic commentary, having forecast the Bahamian housing crisis as well as the BOB, government, and sovereign debt crises in 2013.
He studied medicine at London University in England, interned at the Hackney Hospital in London, and specialized in ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, becoming board certified in 1981 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Canada) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in 1982.
He was an assistant clinical professor at Yale University and a consultant ophthalmologist at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau. He maintains his private practice at Bahamas Vision Centre in the Harbour Bay Shopping Centre and is currently an associate staff member at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
He has extensively studied economics and has published two books focusing on the Bahamas’ economy.
Dr. Rodgers was the founder of Omni Financial Services, which offers a cadre of financial services including money transfers, microlending, bill payment services, debit cards, cash management, and a soon-to-be launched mobile money platform.
Ali Abbas
Moderator
Ali has over 15 years of experience in developing and leading teams at various stages of the IT development lifecycle. He spearheaded the growth of Durham College’s Cybersecurity Innovation Centre, led the deployment of applications and infrastructure in line with ISO 27001 and NIST frameworks, and prepared processes for SOC 2 level clearances. He held senior roles at the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) in projects related to remote connectivity, the implementation of technical training, enhancing access to critical applications, and more. Ali is the host of various tech shows, a panelist for numerous forums, and a highly acknowledged lecturer at many institutions across Canada. He has led the deployment of tabletop exercises for the province of Ontario and is consistently invited to deliver cyber training programs across various sectors. Ali enjoys lecturing at related courses at Niagara College – Toronto, Seneca College, Georgian College, the Toronto School of Management, the University of Fredericton, and Algoma University.
Daria Kirilenko

Daria Kirilenko is a data analytics professional with 7+ years of industry experience driving significant business impact. She has a strong background in business intelligence, data visualization and bioinformatics. As a recognized technology trainer and communicator, Daria has exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills, having trained over 5000 Tableau users at various levels of difficulty in sectors including tech, finance, and life sciences. Daria’s passion for growth and development is evident in her achievements, including the Data Science Specialty designation from Johns Hopkins University, as well as multiple industry-recognized certificates in Cybersecurity and Cloud Architecture. With a deep dedication to achieving outstanding results, Daria continuously seeks to expand her knowledge and skills to stay ahead of the game in this dynamic and ever-evolving industry.
Maryam Najimigoshtasb

Maryam Najimigoshtasb is a highly accomplished professional with a passion for numbers and analysis. With a master’s degree in numerical analysis, Maryam has acquired a deep understanding of mathematical principles and their practical applications in solving complex problems.
Maryam has more than 10 years of teaching experience, where she has honed her skills in explaining difficult concepts in a clear and concise manner. She is known for her patient and approachable teaching style, which has helped countless students succeed in their academic pursuits.
In addition to her teaching experience, Maryam has also spent more than 5 years working in the field of data analytics. She has gained extensive expertise in various data analysis techniques and tools, including statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization. Maryam’s analytical skills have been instrumental in providing data-driven insights that have enabled businesses to make informed decisions and achieve their goals.

Maddy Nanayakkara
Workshop Instructor
Maddy Nanayakkara is a data analytics expert with extensive experience in R, Python, PowerBI, SAS, Tableau, C#.Net, and SQL. Holding an extensive academic background with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Project Management, Mr. Nanayakkara brings academic excellence and practical experience to the field. As a senior business systems analyst at Saudi Aramco, Maddy has gained experience in project management, agile methodologies, change management, and strategic management. Maddy’s research and publications have been presented at prestigious conferences and he has received several awards for academic excellence and contributions to the industry.
