Global University Systems Canada (GUS Canada) has launched an initiative to support Canadians and vulnerable populations affected by COVID-19.
GUS Cares has collaborated with the United Way Centraide. Staff and students at GUS Canada Institutions in Toronto and Vancouver are helping fundraise, purchase, prepare and deliver critical supplies to Canadians in need.
“This is a wonderful initiative and a great opportunity to help those most affected by COVID-19,” said Yuliya Etingen, GUS VP Strategic Development, who has helped spearhead the project.
“The staff and students from these GUS Canada institutions have really come together to make a meaningful difference in our communities.”
All five institutions in the GUS Canada family are supporting this effort ¬including Toronto School of Management (TSoM), University Canada West, Trebas Institute, The Language Gallery Canada and the Canadian College of Technology and Business.
GUS Cares is providing care packages for distribution by the United Way in Toronto and Metro Vancouver. These care packages include personal care products and personal protective equipment. The packages are being assembled in each city by a team of dedicated student volunteers.
“We’re currently looking for partners in the business community to help us expand GUS Cares so we can help even more people in need right now,” said Cyndi McLeod, GUS Canada CEO.
To further promote the incredible work of that the students and organization are doing during COVID-19, Aaron Etingen, GUS Founder and CEO, has made a significant contribution to support the United Way’s Local Love Food Hub. The program is seeking to raise $1 million to support in the delivery of food during COVID-19.
“This is a vital initiative that will help provide a sense of strength and hope for the most vulnerable during this pandemic,” said Ehsan Safdari, TSoM Managing Director. “We are proud to be giving back to our community during this time of need.”
