Update Regarding COVID-19

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, TSoM will continue to facilitate all in-person lessons online, resuming to an online teaching format delivery in April 2020.

TSoM’s campus will remain closed and will follow directions on resuming face-to-face delivery depending on the government and public health guidelines in place.

For students in our Business, Hospitality & Tourism and Cybersecurity programs, the program modules will continue online on April 6th.

For students in our H&T Fundamentals, ACCA and Data Analytics programs, the start dates have not changed, and the program modules will continue online as scheduled.

Communications regarding the programs will be provided directly to students from their instructors.

The Government of Canada has announced today that it is closing its borders to foreign travellers.  Prime Minister Trudeau said the restrictions will come into effect Wednesday, March 18th.  Exceptions will be made for air crews, diplomats, immediate family members and U.S. citizens.  There has been no indication yet when the restrictions will end.  All travellers, including Canadian citizens, coming from outside of the country must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.

We are currently in an unprecedented situation globally; however, at TSoM, we are committed to helping you achieve your educational and career goals and will support you in joining us at the earliest possible opportunity.

  • All students who are currently outside of Canada and have been admitted but have not commenced their studies will be able to defer their acceptance to a future intake.  While we encourage you to defer your studies to a future term, if travel bans are lifted in time for you to join your scheduled intake, we will honour the original offer.
  • If you are already in Canada and scheduled to begin your studies in the next intake, we encourage you to begin your program as scheduled.  If there is any disruption to face-to-face instruction, all classes will be moved to online delivery and will continue as scheduled.

We will be providing regular updates as the situation changes and we thank you for your understanding.  Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

As a proactive measure to protect the health and safety of our students, staff, and community, we will be moving all in-person lessons to online teaching delivery from Monday, March 16th to; Friday, April 3rd.

We are committed to ensuring that all students can continue their studies and complete their programs at TSoM and classes will continue as per schedule. For students that start their one-week break on Friday, March 20th, will have an extended break that will continue until Sunday, April 5thThe start date for the next module is now scheduled for April 6th, instead of March 30th.

Faculty will be using online delivery methods to continue the class lecture as per your module. They will be using Zoom and Canvas in order to maintain the learning standards. Zoom and Canvas will be used to deliver online classes during normal class times. Zoom is a web conferencing application used for delivering webinars and synchronous online class meetings. Faculty can share presentations and applications, and use interactive features, such as the whiteboard, polling tool, and breakout rooms to students.

You will receive an invitation from your teacher to attend the online module daily. Please check your email or Canvas for the same.  Students are expected to attend their scheduled classes online and the student attendance policy will remain in effect.

We request students to check announcements and emails on a regular basis for all the updates.

Please email your faculty, Academic Manager or Student Services if you have any questions or need any clarifications.

Toronto School of Management is committed to continuously monitoring the development of the 2019 Nov Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

On January 30, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) a public health emergency of international concern. Canada’s public health officials (in collaboration with provincial and national health agencies) continue to advise that the risk of contracting the novel COVID-19 in Ontario remains low.

The college will continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of public health agencies. We will provide information to TSoM members, should additional precautions become necessary.

TSoM is committed to providing a healthy environment to our students and faculty. Updates and more information will be provided as we continue to monitor the situation closely. If you have any questions, please contact:

Prevention measures to reduce your exposure and transmission of illnesses

As a reminder, the most effective way to prevent your exposure to and transmission of illnesses (including influenza and the common cold) is to take preventative measures, including:

  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water
  • Maintain at least 1-metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoiding contact with people who are sick
  • Seek early medical help if you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing
If you are sick, we encourage you to stay home

If you are sick, you should avoid close contact with others and stay home. In addition, we encourage you to contact your healthcare practitioner or primary physician as soon as possible and report your symptoms to them for evaluation. You can also contact Telehealth Ontario.

In an emergency, call 911.
If you are planning to travel internationally:

Consult with the Government of Canada Travel Health Notices for the most up-to-date information on travel advisories or restrictions.

Consult with your travel agency or service provider in order to determine if there are any restrictions or limitations. You may also wish to inquire into travel cancellation or re-booking.

Some countries have entry and exit restrictions. Incoming travelers to Toronto continue to receive information about COVID-19 at airports, including to:

  • Monitor themselves for respiratory symptoms, including fever, cough and difficulty breathing;
  • Seek medical care immediately if these respiratory symptoms develop within 14 days after returning to Canada; and
  • Inform their healthcare provider or local public health department about symptoms and travel history before they seek medical care.

Contact the Student Services to advise the college of your proposed travel dates. Please be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Dates of travel
  • Flight information
  • Names of locations and regions to be visited
  • Contact information for the duration of the period of travel
If you have recently travelled:

While the risk of the novel COVID-19 to Toronto residents remains low, the Government of Canada has issued a travel recommendation to avoid non-essential travel to China and has updated travel advisories for other affected regions.

Travelers who have returned from Hubei province, including Wuhan City, in China should:

  • Contact their local public health unit within 24 hours of arriving in Canada;
  • Stay at home and avoid close contact with others, including those in their home, for a total of 14 days from the date they left Hubei province;
  • Contact Student Services to provide:
    • Date of return to Canada
    • Whether or not a quarantine or medical care was elective or required (medical documentation may be requested)
    • Contact information for the duration of the absence from the college
Fostering a respectful environment

With increased media coverage and widespread sharing of misinformation about the new COVID-19, many communities are experiencing a heightened sense of fear, and in some cases, discrimination and harassment towards people of Chinese descent.

Our college community is built on diversity and inclusion and we are committed to fostering a respectful environment, free of discrimination and harassment.

We encourage everyone to treat each other with respect and kindness during this period.
