While the pandemic has put large event gatherings to a halt, especially last year, the government of Ontario has started to begin its reopening phases in various areas, including Toronto. The government continues to monitor COVID-19 cases, as well as vaccination rates, so implementation of reopening steps may vary from time to time, and will depend per city, with the safety of the people as the paramount priority.
Toronto Christmas Market 2021
This year, one of Toronto’s trademark Yuletide celebrations returns to the Distillery District, but this time with a brand-new name as well as a rebranded approach to the annual festival. The market is now called The Distillery Winter Village and comes with a new look, too! The market is more intimate this year, focused more on shopping and dining. However, traditional activities such as live entertainment with performers and carolers, among others, still take place.
The 2021 Toronto Cavalcade of Lights
Another holiday staple that will return to Toronto this November is the Cavalcade of Lights, or the lighting of the Toronto government’s official Christmas Tree, located at Nathan Phillips Square. To keep attendees safe, however, adjustments must be made to maintain social distancing. It was also announced that there would not be any fireworks at this year’s celebration.
Santa Claus Parades
In anticipation of the Christmas season, several Santa Claus parades are held throughout the city! This holiday tradition is always a much-awaited festivity in Toronto, as it fuels the excitement the holiday season brings. The parades perfectly encapsulate the magic winter creates, making it a wonderful family affair for everyone who wants to experience the event.
Bloor-Yorkville Holiday Magic
The Bloor-Yorkville Holiday Magic is a special outdoor event that takes place in the Village of Yorkville Park on November 27, 2021, as the community lights up the place together with 138 trees along Bloor Street, packed with other activities, including performances by international star, Kiesza, and Canadian actress and singer, CARYS! Tourists and locals also get to enjoy the neighbourhood’s incredible atmosphere as they shop and dine through Yorkville and Bloor, surrounded by holiday lights.
